This is the family home of Foomann director Jamie who tackled this as an owner/builder. In a nice piece of symmetry; Jamie worked as a student for Mike Morris, a director of Morris Pirrotta Architects who designed the original North Melbourne house in 1970.

The bones were excellent however the interior needed an overhaul. With an internal area of only 80m2 over split levels – this house illustrates benefits of small footprint buildings that visitors often find illuminating.

The small footprint and vertical massing provide excellent access to light and air. To best utilise all available space; rooms were consolidated, fitted out and furnished with pieces that are larger than you’d expect. The result is a house that has a simple presentation, that feels generous with room to comfortably entertain.

Living Room
This space features custom steel furniture and shelving. Concealed lighting illuminates the space between existing beams.

Kitchen + Dining
This space consolidates former seperate rooms making a single generous space

Wet Areas
The WC, Bathroom + Laundry are all consolidated into one space to be highly functional, light and airy.

Furniture, joinery and door hardware are all custom with bamboo ply details.
