Leonda by the Yarra is a reception centre in Hawthorn owned by Boroondara council, originally built in the 1970s. The building had excellent bones that were hidden behind dated brown bricks and messy landscaping. The existing entry lacked drama.

The brief was to create a new entrance and refurbish the exterior.

The new entry is comprised of three key components – a plinth / ramp, wall and 13 metre long canopy. This provides the option of a grand entry, under the canopy, or a discreet direct route from either car park. The three elements also provide a protected area for guests to congregate and a protected drop off point. The project involved problem solving and landscaping throughout the site.
